Roof & Siding Storm Damage
Minnesota weather can be unpredictable. Whether it’s a summer thunderstorm or winter snow storm, the effects can take a toll on your St Paul home’s roof and siding. Here are some of the effects a storm can have on your roof and siding and what you need to do if your home gets damaged.
Storm Damage on Roofs
High winds can tear and remove shingles, leaving the roof deck, underlayment or old shingles from a previous roof exposed to the elements. Wind can also lift and curl shingles by breaking the seal that bonds them together, leaving your roof vulnerable to wind-driven rain. Hail can leave dents on shingles and dislodge the protective granules needed to shield shingles from rain and sun damage. Any of the above storm damage leaves your roof exposed to the elements. Depending on the damage, repairs or a full roof replacement will be needed.
Storm Damage on Siding
Strong winds, flying debris and wind-driven hail do the most damage to the exterior of your home. Some of the most common issues with siding include cracking, chipping and breaking or holes. If any of these issues happen to your siding, your home is no longer completely protected from the elements. The damaged siding will need to be replaced to adequately protect your home. Do not delay on getting siding repair. The longer you put it off, the more damage that will be done to your home.
What to do after a Storm
After a storm has rolled through your area, you will want to assess any damage. Walk around your home and check for any signs that your roof or siding has been affected. You can also check inside your home for any leaks or water spots in your attic or ceiling. Even though the roof may not appear damaged from the outside, wind and hail may have caused leaks that can lead to problems later. If you find damage, you will want to take pictures to document it then call your homeowner’s insurance company to report a claim and arrange an inspection. You also need a contractor you can trust to assess the damage, provide an estimate and work on repairs or replacement. We have experience working with insurance companies and will make sure your home’s roof or siding is repaired properly.
